Introduction of AISI347
AISI347, also known as 0Cr18Ni11Nb, is a stainless steel grade developed and produced by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI). It is an austenitic stainless steel alloy containing at least 18% chromium, 11% nickel and 0.75% niobium, with additions of molybdenum, titanium, tantalum, nitrogen and aluminium. Its composition is adapted to increase corrosion resistance and mechanical strength, while maintaining its excellent formability, welding characteristics and other features suitable for industrial applications.
Features of AISI347
AISI347 has a wide range of properties, including good corrosion resistance, high temperature strength, good toughness, good workability and weldability. These properties make it well-suited for use in a variety of industrial applications.
The high chromium and nickel contents of AISI347 gives it outstanding corrosion resistance in many media, including strong acids and chlorides, which makes it ideal for environments where corrosion is a common problem. The addition of niobium increases the mechanical strength and toughness of AISI347 and improves its ability to resist stress corrosion cracking. The presence of molybdenum, titanium, tantalum, nitrogen and aluminium also enhances the corrosion resistance of AISI347.
AISI347 maintains its excellent formability and weldability thanks to its austenitic structure and its low carbon content. These characteristics make it easy to form and weld and ensure good joint strength and ductility. The high temperature strength of AISI347 makes it ideal for high temperature applications, such as power plant components and industry furnaces.
Typical Applications of AISI347
Due to the excellent properties of AISI347, it is widely used in a range of industries and applications. Typical applications include:
• Chemical processing equipment
• Heating element components
• Exhaust systems and manifolds
• Valves, fittings and piping components
• Pollution control systems
• Pressure vessels and boilers
• Gas turbine blades and engine parts
• Heat exchangers
• Thermowells
• Rotors and disc components
Conclusion
AISI347, or 0Cr18Ni11Nb, is a high-alloy austenitic stainless steel grade designed for industrial applications. Its excellent properties such as good corrosion resistance, high temperature strength, good formability and weldability, make it well-suited for use in chemical processing equipment, heating elements, exhaust systems, valves, fittings and other components.
