Introduction

The Panasonic Lumix FZ30 is an 8 megapixel digital camera featuring an ultra-zoom 12x power Leica lens that offers a focal range of 7.3mm to 87.6mm (the 35mm equivalent is 36mm to 432mm). AISI 1030 steel is a medium-carbon steel that can be used in a variety of applications. It is one of the most commonly used in the aerospace, automotive, and construction industries. It has a good balance of strength, thermal conductivity and weldability, with machinability slightly lower than that of plain carbon steel.

AISI 1030 has a nominal carbon content of 0.30% and a number of additional alloying elements, such as silicon and manganese, that are typically used in medium-carbon steels. This steel has good tensile and yield strength, good ductility and toughness, and reasonable machinability. It does not exhibit good impact resistance, however, and should not be used for applications requiring this property.

AISI 1030 is generally used to produce parts and components that will be used in low-stress applications such as agricultural and automotive equipment, bolts, nuts and screws, axles, gears and crankshafts. Its good machinability properties make it suitable for the manufacture of parts that require cold heading and forming. It is also used for agricultural equipment, machine tools, power-transmission components, and various other types of industrial machinery.

AISI 1030 is highly susceptible to hot cracking, and as such, precautions should be taken when welding or heat treating this steel. Annealing this steel will improve both ductility and machinability. Post-weld heat treatment process should be minimized to prevent fracture. This steel is usually left in its normalized condition and used in applications that do not require high strength or wear resistance.
