1 Overview

The purpose of this document is to provide specifications to aid in the design and implementation of an automatic tool exchange system for a Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machining line. This system is intended to streamline production, improve machining accuracy, reduce setup and labor costs, and ultimately improve productivity.

2 System Requirements & Specifications

2.1 General Requirements

The automatic tool exchange system must use transfer machinery that is capable of achieving high positioning accuracy and repeatability. It should be capable of exchanging multiple types of tools (e.g. milling cutters, drills, taps, inserts, etc.) and should be designed such that tools can be exchanged rapidly and reliably.
