Steel ingot taper is an important index to evaluate the quality of steel ingot casting production. It is the overall standard to measure whether the molten steel is full or not, whether the molten steel flows evenly and whether the cross-sectional change of the steel ingot is reasonable. A higher steel ingot taper is an important factor to ensure the qualified steel.
Steel ingot tapers measure the change in the cross sectional area of the ingot when it is solidified and cooled from the top to the bottom. The ratio of the top cross sectional area to the bottom cross sectional area is known as the taper. The taper of steel ingots is usually between 0.92 and 1.02. If the steel ingot taper is too large, it means that the molten steel does not flow evenly, if it is too small, it means that the molten steel flow is too strong.
The reason why steel ingot taper is closely related to the quality of steel ingot is mainly due to the following three aspects. First, the steel ingot taper can measure the compaction degree of the steel ingot. If the taper is too large, it means that the bottom of the steel ingot is not compacted, which will cause defects such as cold cracks and gaps in the steel. Second, steel ingot taper is closely related to the molten steel flow. When a certain value of steel ingot taper deviates from the standard, it means that the molten steel flows abnormally and the chemical composition of the steel ingot is uneven, which will lead to performance defects of the steel. Finally, the steel ingot taper is closely related to the situation of feeding and feeding speed. If the feeding is not uniform and the feeding speed is too fast, the steel ingot taper will be large, and if the feeding speed is too slow, the steel ingot taper will be small.
Therefore, from the above points, it can be seen that the quality of steel ingot is closely related to the taper of steel ingot. In order to ensure the quality of steel ingot, it is necessary to standardize the production process of steel ingot, including reasonable arrangement of slag, reasonable arrangement of pouring points, reasonable amount of added alloy elements and reasonable amount of tamping oxygen. Especially, the suitable taper of steel ingot should be strictly controlled according to the requirements. Only by strictly controlling the taper of the steel ingot can qualification be guaranteed and the problem of the quality of the steel ingot can be avoided.
