Steel for rolling tools

In the production process of metal formation technology, rolling is the most widely used process. The quality of the rolled workpiece depends to a great extent on the quality of the rolling tool. In the field of metal forming technology, rolling tool steel is an important material that directly affects the performance of rolling tools.

Rolling tool steel refers to steel used to manufacture rolling dies such as plate rolling mills, wire rolling mills, angle rolling mills and other metal rolling tools. Rolling tool steel can be divided into several categories according to different heat treatment processes and microstructure compositions. In metal forming technology, three common applications of rolling tool steel are hot rolling, cold-rolling and warm rolling.

Hot-rolled tool steel is characterized by its high temperature strength, excellent wear resistance and high machinability, and can withstand higher loads. It is often used for parting-off tools. Common hot-rolled tools are AIS1 and AISI H13. Cold-rolled tool steel has a higher surface finish, wear resistance and grinding performance than hot-rolled tool steel. Common cold-rolling tools include D2 and D6. Warm-rolling tools are more wear-resistant than both hot-rolled and cold-rolled tools, and suitable for cutting of non-ferrous products. Common warm-rolling tools are W22 and L6.

When selecting rolling tool steel, we need to take into account several factors, including the strength, toughness and wear-resistance of the steel, the process requirements of rolling forming technology, the rolling temperature and other process factors. With the continuous development of metal forming technology, the requirements for the rolling tool and rolling tool steel are also becoming higher and higher, and new materials and technologies are continuously emerging. Therefore, in the selection of rolling tool steel, only those with advanced composition, heat treatment process and performance should be used to ensure the correct production of metal products and ensure their service life.
