5. Protection and monitoring
5.1 Overload protection
Air compressors should be equipped with overload protection devices to prevent the motor from being overloaded. When the compressor is in an overloaded condition, the overload protection device shall immediately disconnect the main power supply, stop the compressor and notify the operator. The overload protection device should have a manual reset device.
5.2 Motor starter
Compressors should be equipped with motor starters, including a controller and an overload device. The motor starter should be able to limit the starting current to the compressor motor, so as to protect the motor.
5.3 Sustained clamping device
The compressor motor should be provided with sustained clamping device, which should be reliable, able to stop the motor when necessary, and without two-way rotation.
5.4 Temperature monitoring device
Compressors should be provided with a temperature monitoring device to detect the temperature of the motor or compressed air. The temperature monitoring device or motor protection device should immediately cut off the power supply when the motor temperature is too high.
5.5 Overpressure protection
Compressors should be provided with an interlock device with the air tank to prevent the air tank from being overpressured. If the air tank pressure exceeds the specified limit, the interlock device should immediately cut off the power supply of the compressor.
6 Conclusion
GB 3853-83 lays down the performance requirements for general-purpose volumetric air compressors, and specifies the technical requirements for overload protection device, motor starter, sustained clamping device, temperature monitoring device and overpressure protection, so as to ensure the safety of the compressor.
