Procedures for Cleaning a Tumble Dryer
For optimal performance and to prevent the risk of fires or other damages, your tumble dryer should be properly cleaned on a regular basis. The following procedures outline the general steps required for the thorough cleaning of a standard tumble dryer.
1.Unplug the appliance:
Before you begin, always be sure to unplug your tumble dryer from the electrical outlet.
2.Remove lint Filter:
Remove the lint filter from your tumble dryer. Clean both sides of the filter using a brush, warm water, and a mild detergent. Rinse the filter after cleaning and allow it to dry completely before placing it back into the dryer.
3.Clean dryer Drum:
Using a clean rag, wipe down the inside of the dryer drum. Be sure to remove any dirt or debris that may have become lodged within the dryer drum. It is also important to occasionally clean the outside of the tumble dryers motor housing, as well as the hose that connects the dryer to the wall.
4.Vacuum Dryer Ductwork:
To prevent build-up of lint and dirt, periodically use a vacuum cleaner to clean the dryers exhaust ductwork.
5.Check for Leaks:
Be sure to periodically check the dryers exhaust vent and hose for any signs of leakage. If a leak is discovered, you will need to immediately repair the leak or contact a qualified appliance repairperson.
6.Check Exhaust Vent:
Also inspect the external exhaust vent for any signs of blockage. Some causes of blockages are lint, dirt, and bird nests.
7.Clean Lint and Debris:
If the lint trap, exhaust vent, or hose become clogged with lint and debris, you can use a vacuum cleaner to clean them.
8.Replace Parts:
If any parts of the tumble dryer are damaged or worn, contact a qualified appliance repair person to replace the parts.
9.Check for Gas Leaks:
If you have a gas-powered dryer, you will need to periodically have it inspected for any possible gas leaks.
10.Restore Power:
Once all of the components of your tumble dryer have been thoroughly cleaned and inspected, plug the appliance back in and turn it on.
These procedures should be followed on a regular basis to ensure that your tumble dryer is always in good working order. If you experience any difficulties performing any of the above steps, always contact a qualified appliance repair person.
