Design of Coking Plant

Coking plant is an essential part of a steelmaking process used to transform coal into coke, which is a valuable source of energy for industrial activities. Coking plant is a facility for the efficient production of coke. In this paper, the whole design of a coking plant is introduced, including the principle, process, equipment and techniques.

Firstly, the principle of coking plants should be explained. As mentioned above, coking plants are facilities that use coal to produce coke energy. Generally, the basic equipment and processes used in coking plants are the same but may vary depending on the type of coal used. The process of coking plant includes the following steps: pre-treatment, coking, combustion and post-processing. During the pre-treatment, raw coal is crushed, ground, dried and screened to produce coke of the desired size. In the coking stage, coal is heated in an oven at a high temperature with controlled supply of air and oxygen. This process results in the formation of coke, which is then moved to a combustion chamber to burn and release the energy. Finally, the post-processing step involves removing ash, sulfur and other impurities to yield high-grade coke.

Then, some necessary equipments and techniques should be introduced. At the start of the coking process, storage tanks are needed to store different types of raw coal. To collect and convey the coal from the storage tanks to the ovens, various conveyor systems, such as bucket elevators, belt conveyors and screw conveyors can be employed. The ovens themselves are made up of brick walls and an internal firebox, with various heat and refractory materials to provide the necessary insulation and heat distribution. The combustion process is carried out in a sealed chamber, with a controlled airflow system to maintain the optimal temperature and extraction chamber to separate the remaining impurities from the coke. Further processing and handling then occurs with a variety of material handling systems, such as conveyor belts, pumps and vibrators.

The final step in the coking process is the environmental protection. Generally, all coking plants are required to meet environmental standards to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations. This involves minimizing the production of harmful emissions and waste, through use of dust collectors, scrubbers and pollution controls. In addition, regular maintenance of equipment, monitoring and control of process parameters, and proper disposal of waste and residues is also necessary.

In conclusion, the design of coking plant involves a series of steps and equipments, ranging from pre-treatment and coking, combustion and post-processing, to environmental protection. With proper design and operation, coking plants can be an efficient and cost effective source of coke energy for industrial applications.
