The Places I Have Visited
Throughout my life, I have been privileged to travel to many interesting and exciting places. Some of my favorite places to visit are China, South Africa, and Egypt.
China is a stunningly beautiful country. Home to one of the oldest civilizations in the world, it holds a rich history that can be seen in the many ancient monuments and buildings scattered throughout the country. One of my favorite sites to visit while in China is the Great Wall of China. This massive man-made structure is over 6,000 kilometers long and a symbol of China’s power and strength. A visit to the Forbidden City, which served as the home of the Chinese emperors for centuries, is another must-see on my list. Rich in culture, I have found the markets and the cuisine of this northeastern giant to be extremely exciting and interesting.
In South Africa, my family and I visited Kruger National Park, one of the largest game reserves in Africa. We hiked along dusty trails and spotted a variety of African wildlife, ranging from baboons to elephants. Unexpectedly, we even came across the Big Five, a term used to refer to the five most dangerous animals in the area-buffalo, rhinoceros, lion, leopard, and elephant. After our safari adventure, we headed to the capital of Johannesburg to explore the vibrant city life.
My most recent trip took me to Egypt. One of the highlights of this trip for me was exploring the ancient tombs of the Pharaohs and the remaining monuments of Ancient Egyptian civilization. I was able to witness firsthand the effects of the desert on the structures and marvel at the limestone pyramids that line the horizon. We wandered around the Nile and its many diverse markets. Religiously, I visited the largest mosque in Cairo, Al-Azhar, before journeying east to the seaport of Alexandria, where I rode a speedboat alongside the Mediterranean for a full day of sightseeing.
Travelling has always been important to me as much as it has been enriching. I believe it’s important to step out of our comfort zone and explore the world. I am grateful to have had the opportunity to see some of the most amazing places across the globe and to experience different cultures, lifestyles, and civilizations. It is these journeys that I cherish and return to with fond memories.
