The Process of Ring Rolling
Ring rolling is a metal forging process used to produce seamless rings with superior structural integrity. This process is also referred to as ring spinning, roll forging, roll spinning and roll forming. The metal is then placed between the rollers and rotated either clockwise or counter-clockwise. As the metal is compressed between the rollers, it is forced outward into a circular shape and its diameter and wall thickness are reduced. The metal is then progressively passed through the rollers until the desired thickness is achieved.
After the rollers have achieved the desired shape and thickness, the metal is then moved to the finishing process. This involves further manipulation of the metal, with heat-treating, machining or grinding being used to achieve the desired properties. Once complete, the metal is left with superior strength, integrity and quality, making it ideal for a wide range of components and applications.
