International Agriculture Development Fund

Agriculture is an essential component of modern society and plays an important role in providing food and livelihoods for much of the world’s population. The objective of the International Agriculture Development Fund (IADF) is to assist developing countries in their efforts to increase agricultural productivity, reduce rural poverty and create vibrant rural communities. The IADF helps to deliver breakthroughs in technology, develop agroforestry, boost crop yields and protect land rights for smallholder farmers.

The IADF was established in 1999 in response to the need for improved agricultural research, training and services for poorer countries. Since then, the IADF has been a key player in promoting sustainable agricultural development and has funded projects in more than 30 countries.

The IADF works with other organizations and institutions, including government agencies, research institutions, universities, cooperatives, non-governmental organizations and the private sector. These groups are involved in providing training and technical assistance on a range of topics such as water management, agroforestry, soil conservation and crop selection.

The IADF also works to ensure that international policies on aid and trade are consistent and aligned with agricultural development. This includes campaigning at the global, regional and national level for fairer prices, better access to markets and a guaranteed level of investment in rural development.

To further enhance the impact of its work, the IADF operates a number of grant and loan schemes. These are designed to support projects that aim to develop better agronomic practices, improve access to extension services, create agricultural cooperatives and address the challenges of climate change.

The IADF also invests heavily in research and gathers data on agriculture production and policies. This data is then used to inform national and international agricultural policies, helping to shape the future of agricultural development.

The IADF takes a holistic approach to agricultural development, recognizing that agricultural production must be combined with social and economic development. This means working to empower marginalized communities, reduce inequality and support the development of smallholder farming businesses.

The IADF believes that everyone – rich and poor – deserves access to the essential goods and services that sustain life and that improved food security is essential. The IADF is committed to helping developing countries overcome poverty and ensure a brighter future for everyone.
