A students life is often full of a variety of competing demands and often undesired obligations. At first, college or university may be seen as an opportunity to escape the tedious life of high school, but students soon learn that being a student can be just as demanding, if not more so. With late nights filled with studying, early mornings of classes and the never-ending pile of homework, staying on top of it all seems to be a challenge all on its own. But although most students feel a substantial amount of stress because of all the competing demands, they must remember that all of it is completely worth it at the end.
School is not only a means of learning and gaining knowledge, it is also an extremely important part of discovering oneself. Knowing what type of career to pursue, what type of person to be, and what type of lifestyle to live, are all formed in part by experiences and knowledge which can be gained through formal education. Not to mention, the potential to gain summer employment and networking opportunities associated with school create many valuable benefits which can provide great life experience and open doors later on in life.
Aside from classes and school related commitments, students can often join or develop clubs, associations, or sports teams to broaden their interests, meet new people, and learn valuable leadership and teamwork skills. Through the process of working with peers in more informal, social settings, students learn to plan, be organized, and with a large enough volume of members, even have the opportunity to serve as a leader. These skills are highly valued by employers and should be cultivated throughout ones college experience. Moreover, making friends and developing relationships in college can provide a strong network of contacts, friendships, and acquaintances which may last for many years to come.
At the end of the day, school is all about learning, growing, and discovering. Although at times it may take a lot of effort and hard work, the rewards at the end make the experience worth it in the long run. Becoming a better version of oneself who is knowledgeable and well-rounded is bound to benefit not only ones career and long-term goals, but also the quality of life in general. Regardless of what each individual chooses to do with their education and experiences, being mindful of the process and taking the most out of it as they can, is sure to guarantee satisfaction and a much better future.
