Heat Treatment Characteristics of Carbon Steel Plastic Mould
1 Introduction
The heat treatment of carbon steel plastic mould can determine the performance characteristics, mechanical properties and microstructure of the mould. The heat treatment process of carbon steel plastic mould is composed of heating, holding, cooling and other processes. In the process of plastic forming, carbon steel plastic mould has a long time of high temperature exposure, so heat treatment is an important part of carbon steel plastic mould.
2 Characteristics of Heat Treatment Process
2.1 High Temperature Heating
In general, the heat treatment temperature ranges from 1000°C to 1050°C. The cooling rate is determined by the austenitizing temperature. It is usually slower than normalizing, and the range is 30~60℃/h. It is important to select the appropriate cooling rate according to the wall thickness of the mould. After heating and quenching, the carbon steel plastic mould has good wear resistance and compressive strength, and its fatigue strength will also be improved.
2.2 Normalizing
Normalizing is usually used to improve the mechanical properties of the die. It is usually heated to 700~780℃, and then cooled to room temperature. The cooling rate is 30~60℃/h. The normalizing can eliminate the stress, improve the physical and chemical properties of the mould, stabilize the size of the mould, refine the microstructure, and improve the performance of the mould.
2.3 Tempering
Tempering is a heat-treatment process to improve the overall performance of carbon steel plastic mould. Tempering should be performed after quenching and normalizing. According to the required performance and strength of carbon steel plastic mould, the tempering temperature and time should be appropriatelyadjusted.
2.4 Surface Oxidation
The surface oxidation treatment is used for hard chromium, heat-resistant and wear-resistant treatment of the mould surface. After surface oxidation, the surface of carbon steel plastic mould has good hardness, wear resistance, corrosion resistance and good anticorrosive effect on brazing and welding.
3 Summary
To sum up, the heat treatment of carbon steel plastic mould has become a very important process in the production process of mould. It not only improves the physical and chemical properties of the mould, but also can improve the overall performance of the mould. The heat treatment process of carbon steel plastic mould includes high temperature heating, normalizing, tempering and surface oxidation, etc. By understanding and mastering the characteristics of heat treatment process of carbon steel plastic mould, it can improve the overall performance of the mould and prolong the service life of mould.
