Galvanized Low-Carbon Steel Wire for Armored Cable (GB/T3082-1984)

Low-carbon steel wire of grade 0.06 mm with a diameter range from 0.2 mm to 0.8 mm is an important component of electrical armored cable and is required to provide sufficient electrical conductivity, tensile strength and flexibility, size precision and easy installation. As an advanced technical standard, GB/T3082-1984 has been established according to the actual needs of China’s electrician industry. GB/T3082-1984 is the most basic technical standard for production and quality inspection of low carbon galvanized steel wire for electrical armored cable in China, and it provides the basis for the quality standard of low carbon steel wire related products.

This standard specifies the requirements, test methods, inspection rules, signs and mark for low carbon galvanized steel wire for electrical armored cable. It is suitable for cold-drawn galvanized low carbon steel wire produced from 0.2 mm to 0.8 mm in diameter for electrical armored cable. It has also been used for all other galvanized low carbon steel wires with similar applications.

This standard is divided into four parts: general rules (1), product specifications (2), test methods(3) and inspection rules (4).

Part 1 mainly defines the terms and symbols used in the standard, including the type and chemical composition of the raw materials for steel wire cold-drawing, its mechanical properties and the dimensional tolerance of steel wire. The low carbon galvanized steel wires which complying with this standard must meet the requirements of type of raw material and chemical composition. The content of carbon shall not exceed 0.06%. The alloy elements, such as silicon and phosphorus, will affect the deformation of galvanized film. A certain content range is specified in the standard.

Part 2 specifies the parameters of products. These parameters are mainly expressed by the nominal diameter and maximum tensile strength, which should meet the requirements of nominal diameter inclusively between 0.2 mm and 0.8 mm, and the minimum tensile strength should be not lower than G500Mpa.

Part 3 specifies the test methods for low carbon galvanized steel wires for electrical armored cable. It includes test methods for the measurement of mechanical properties, size, zinc coating thickness, flash point and surface quality of galvanized film.

Part 4 specifies the inspection rules for low carbon galvanized steel wires for electrical armored cable. It includes sampling rules and size inspection rules, including the number of test samples, test sample selection rules, test sample rejection rules and pass/fail criteria.

In summary, GB/T3082-1984 is an important technical standard for low carbon galvanized steel wires used in electrical armored cable and provides a reference to ensure the quality of the galvanized steel wires used in the cable. It provides necessary technical indicators and requirements, covering a wide range of applications and categories, and its implementation has been proved to be highly effective in reducing the quality risk of low carbon galvanized steel wires.
