Welding technology regulations of building steel structures according to JGJ81-2002(part 8)

Welding of steel structures is an important part of the construction technology of steel structures. In steel structure construction, welding is used to connect steel members, building components and additional fittings, so as to make different components form an integrated whole. Welding technology is an important part of steel structure engineering technology. The quality of welding directly affects the strength and stability of structures.

In order to guarantee the welding quality of the steel structure, JGJ 81-2002 Technical Regulations for Steel Structure Construction made relevant stipulations on the welding technology of the steel structure. Part 8 provides welding technology regulations for steel structure construction according to JGJ 81- 2002.The purpose of these regulations is to ensure the quality and service life of steel structure. The key points are as follows.

• When welding steel structures, the welding materials shall meet the criteria specified in the drawings and relevant standards, and shall be labeled with performance indicators. And the preheating temperature of the weld before welding should not less than 70 °C.

• Before welding, the weld groove width, inclination angle and other dimensions shall meet the requirements of the drawings. The electrically welded structural parts shall have the required weld shape and area according to the design requirements, and be in accordance with the relevant welding process regulations.

• When welding, the welding current should not exceed the range specified in the drawings. The spacing of the welding positions should meet the requirements of the drawings.

• After welding, the joints should be subjected to visual inspection. Non-destructive testing should be conducted if the defects such as incomplete fusion and incomplete penetration are found.

• After welding, the surface defects of welds should be treated according to the requirements of the drawings.

• Non-destructive testing and ultrasonic testing of welds should be carried out after welding according to the drawings.

• The welding quality shall meet the requirements of the drawings and relevant standards.

These regulations are of great significance for improving the welding technology of steel structures. In the welding process of steel structures, it is necessary to strictly implement the various technical regulations of JGJ 81-2002. Only in this way, can the welding quality be guaranteed and the service life of steel structures can be sufficiently guaranteed.
