Screw Products Name Comparison (Line Material)

Line material is an essential component of many products. Not only does it come in a variety of shapes and sizes, but it has many different names. Screws, in particular, have several names that are used to describe different types of screws. This article will examine these names in both English and Chinese and explain their differences.

Machine screws:

A machine screw is a fastening screw that is always applied with a mating part, such as a nut or washer. A machine screw has a flat head and can be found in different types, such as slotted and Phillips. In Chinese, these are known as “四角螺母” or “机械螺钉”.

Wood screws:

Wood screws are components used to join pieces of wood together. Interestingly, these screws have threading that run in a spiral up to the head, which allows them to be used in harder materials. They have a variety of head shapes, such as oval, round and flat. In Chinese, these are called “木螺丝”.

Self-tapping screws:

A self-tapping screw is a screw used to anchor into substrates that do not have a pre-drilled or pre-tapped hole. It has a thread cutting tip that cuts into the material and allows the screw to thread into it. In Chinese, these are referred to as “自攻螺钉”.

Socket head screws:

Socket head screws have a cylindrical head and a hexagonal recess in the head that requires a wrench for insertion and release. In Chinese, these are known as “套筒头螺钉”.

Sheet metal screws:

Sheet metal screws are made of metal and have a pointed end designed to help drill into thin metal. They are available in a variety of sizes and shapes, such as flat, round or pan head. In Chinese, these are known as “板螺钉”.

Toggle bolts:

Toggle bolts are fixtures that are used to attach heavy objects to a wall. They are washer-like and are placed inside a drilled hole in the wall. In Chinese, these are known as “销螺钉”.

Deck screws:

Deck screws are made of stainless steel and are specifically designed for use in decks and other outdoor applications. They have a sharper point than other screws and have a self-countersinking head. In Chinese, these are referred to as “地板螺丝”.

Set screws:

Set screws are used to secure an object to another object by allowing the screws threads to adhere to the object. They are also referred to as “grub screws” because of their short and thin designs. In Chinese, these are known as “定位螺钉”.

Lag screws:

Lag screws are used for fastening heavy objects such as large timbers to a wall or other surfaces. They feature a hexagonal head and are longer, thicker and more durable than other screws. In Chinese, these are called “铆螺丝”.

Thumb screws:

Thumb screws are often used when manual manipulation or regular adjustability is required, as they are easier to tighten and loosen than other screws. These screws, which feature a large head, require no tools for fastening. In Chinese, these are referred to as “手紧螺钉”.

While screws may have many common names, understanding the differences between them can be helpful when it comes to selecting the right screw for a particular application. Knowing the different names for screws in both English and Chinese can make selecting the correct screw easier, whether for industrial applications or for everyday use.
