Steel refining is a process that takes raw materials, often scrap metal, and produces a high-quality finished product. The first step in refining steel is scraping the metal blocks in order to remove any impurities, such as dirt, rust, and other foreign materials. This preparatory step helps to ensure that the finished product will be free from contaminants. After the scraping process, the metal blocks are heated up in a furnace, usually at temperatures ranging from 1000 to 1500 degrees Celsius. During this process the metal blocks become liquid, and it is during this process that certain chemical elements can be added to the mixture to give the resulting material certain properties.

Once this heating process takes place, the molten steel is poured out of the furnace and into a steel refinery. The refinery serves as a vessel where the molten steel is further processed and refined. During this step of the refining process, secondary elements are sometimes added to modify and further refine the steels properties. The refinery also holds the charges that form the components of the steel. These charges are then mixed together and heated, often by electrical current, to further refine the steel. By further refining the steel, engineers are able to refine the steel into various grades and forms that can be used for a wide range of applications.
