A Most Unfortunate Mishap

It’s not uncommon for athletes to worry about their equipment failing at the worst possible time, but nothing could have prepared Franklin Remington for what he encountered one evening at a local baseball practice. Remington had just purchased a brand new bat to replace one with a cracked handle, and was excited to take it out on the field. However, that evening, while attempting to hit a fastball, he realized his new bat’s handle had suddenly broken in half.

This was no ordinary bat. It was a genuine $500 silver alloy bat, and the expense and embarrassment of what had just occurred had Remington’s mind racing. Fortunately, he had a backup plan, and dashed home for his old bat with a repaired handle. Or so he thought – when he arrived home, his back-up bat was nowhere to be found.

Remington needed a new bat and he needed it fast. He scoured the internet and searched local stores but came up empty-handed. Finally, in a last-ditch effort, he called up a local sports store and asked if they had any bats in stock. To his surprise, they had one with a handle identical to his broken one. He eagerly purchased it and was off to the baseball diamond to rejoin his group.

The rest of the evening’s practice went as normal, though Remington couldn’t help but feel embarrassed. As he reflected on the evening, he decided it was best to pay extra attention to the durability of his equipment going forward. It had been a costly mistake, and a lesson he wouldn’t soon forget.

The next day, he took his new bat to a nearby hardware store to buy a reinforced handle and have it fixed. After a few minutes of searching, he found the perfect replacement handle for his bat. He thought about buying one for his old bat as well, but figured that was money better spent elsewhere.

The new handle provided the necessary support and durability he needed, and from that point forward he was well-prepared for every practice and game. Though it had cost him a considerable amount of money and time, he couldn’t help but feel a sense of relief, knowing his new bat wouldn’t suffer the same fate as his old one.

For any athlete facing a similar problem, Remington’s advice is simple: invest in your sporting equipment and make sure the necessary repairs are regularly done to keep it functioning at its peak level of performance. Doing so can save you time, money and, of course, avoid any unfortunate mishaps.
