William F. Wordsworth was an English poet and essayist who wrote during the Romantic era of literature. He is widely known as one of the most influential figures in poetry and literature, and his works are still admired and studied by many today. Wordsworth was born in Cockermouth, Cumberland in 1770 and was the second of five children born to Richard Wordsworth and Ann Cookson Wordsworth. His mother had considerable influence on young Wordsworth, nurturing his creative side and encouraging his interest in poetry.

Wordsworth began writing poetry during childhood and raised himself to a professional level by the time he was eighteen. His first poem entitled ‘Thorn’ was published in the European Magazine in 1787. Most of Wordsworth’s poems draw on his experiences growing up in the English countryside. His themes often focus on childhood memories and nature, as seen in his most famous works, ‘Lines Composed a Few Miles Above Tintern Abbey’ and ‘She Was a Phantom of Delight’. Some of Wordsworth’s other works are ‘The Solitary Reaper’, ‘The Shepherd’s Homely Fare’, ‘Ode: Intimations of Immortality’, ‘Ode on the Intimations of Immortality from Recollections of Early Childhood’, and ‘Lines Written in Early Spring’.

Wordsworth was also influential in the development of English literature as a whole. He was a major figure in the Romantic movement, continuing the tradition of such poets as Samuel Taylor Coleridge, Robert Burns and Percy Bysshe Shelley. He was also an important figure in the development of literary criticism, attempting to apply scientific method to literary works.

Wordsworth’s influence on English literature is still felt today. He continues to inspire a new generation of poets and writers, and his works are widely studied in universities and colleges. Wordsworth was an important figure in the development of modern literature, and as such, his works remain some of the most important in English literature.
