Stephen Hawking - A Modern Day Genius

The late Stephen Hawking was one of the greatest minds of modern day science. He was a brilliant physicist and cosmologist who dedicated his life to exploring the mysteries of the universe. Born in 1942 in Oxford, England, Hawking contracted amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) at the age of 21. Despite the progressive nature of the disease, which eventually left him wheelchair bound, Hawking continued to pursue his scientific endeavours and make some of the most impressive contributions to science in the last century.

Hawkings primary areas of study were gravity and quantum mechanics. His major achievement in these fields are his theories on Black Holes in which he put forth the idea that information about the matter which falls into them is lost forever. His other major area of research was cosmology, the study of the Universe and its origin. Hawking proposed a theory of singularities or special solutions to Einsteins general theory of relativity, which suggested that the Universe didnt have a start or an end.

No doubt, Hawking was one of the greatest minds in recent history. His works have changed the landscape of astrophysics and cosmology forever. However, beyond his incredible scientific accomplishments, he was also admired for his wit and courage. Despite undergoing partial paralysis and facing a daunting death sentence, Hawking never lost his sense of humour or faith in the human spirit. He faced these difficulties with strength and grace and continued to embark on a never-ending quest to discover the secrets of the Universe.

Hawkings death in 2018 resonated around the world. His work over the years has made a huge impact on the scientific community and will continue to inspire generations to come. He said, “The greatest enemy of knowledge is not ignorance, but the illusion of knowledge.” He believed that while facts are essential, it is important to also consider all possibilities and perspectives.

No doubt, Hawking will continue to inspire people for years to come. He goes down in history as one of the most revolutionary scientists of the modern era. His theories, ideas, and courage are an example for all of us, regardless of our age and field. He once said, “However difficult life may seem, there is always something you can do and succeed at.”

Stephen Hawking will be remembered not just for his brilliant mind, but for his incredible courage, wit, and tenacity. He was a true inspiration to us all and will remain one for years to come.
