Electroless Plating

Electroless plating, also known as chemical or auto-catalytic plating, is a versatile plating process. It can be used to deposit both decorative and functional metal coatings onto a wide variety of base materials. Commonly used electroless plating solutions include copper, nickel and gold.

Electroless plating is typically performed in a heated bath of plating solution. As the solution is heated, the desired metal ions begin to ionize and remain suspended in solution. By controlling the temperature and pH of the bath, it is possible to adjust the speed at which a coating is deposited onto the substrate.

The substrate, which is typically the component that needs to be plated, is immersed in the plating solution for a period of time depending on the material being plated and the desired thickness of the coating.
