Stainless steel welding rod is one of the important welding material. It is widely used in building bridge, ship, boiler and pressure vessel, chemical and petroleum fields. It has excellent corrosion resistance and good mechanical properties.

The main chemical constituents of stainless steel welding rods are C (carbon), Mn (manganese), Si ( silicon), Cr (Chromium), Ni (Nickel), Cu (Copper), Al ( Aluminum), Mo (molybdenum) and Fe (Iron). In addition, other elements such as N (Nitrogen), P (Phosphorus), S (Sulfur) or Nb (Niobium) may also be added to stainless steel welding rods, depending on the requirements of mechanical and corrosion properties.

According to the different chemical elements content and application range, stainless steel welding rods are devided into 7 kinds,namely, 0Cr19Ni9, 0Cr17Ni12Mo2, 0Cr18Ni10Ti, 1Cr18Ni 9Ti, 0Cr18Ni10Si2Mo2, 0Cr17Ni12Mo3Ni and 1Cr18Ni12Mo2Ti. Their main uses are as follows:

1. 0Cr19Ni9 welding rod:It is mainly used for welding 304 type stainless steel.

2. 0Cr17Ni12Mo2 welding rod: It is mainly used for welding 316 type stainless steel.

3. 0Cr18Ni10Ti welding rod: It is mainly used for welding 321 type stainless steel.

4. 1Cr18Ni9Ti welding rod: It is mainly used for welding 347 type stainless steel.

5. 0Cr18Ni10Si2Mo2 welding rod: It is mainly used for welding 308 type stainless steel.

6. 0Cr17Ni12Mo3Ni welding rod: It is mainly used for welding 316L type stainless steel.

7. 1Cr18Ni12MO2Ti welding rod: It is mainly used for welding 321 stainless steel.

Stainless steel welding rods provide excellent shear strength, good corrosion resistance and ductility, and are suitable for welding stainless steel and other dissimilar metals. Moreover, stainless steel welded metal is extremely strong with a high impact resistance. It can also resist industrial corrosion which is highly beneficial to the service life of welded metal structures and components.

In order to ensure good welding process, stainless steel welding rod must have good surface smoothness, high temperature oxidation resistance and uniform hardness and toughness. Also, in order to weld stainless steel plates, welding rods with different chemical elements must be selected according to the chemical composition of work pieces to be welded and the materials of welding fillers.

In conclusion, stainless steel welding rods are widely used in a variety of welding, and their mechanical and corrosion properties are good. Therefore, it is necessary to select the appropriate welding rods according to the welding parameters, working environment and requirements of welding performance.
