GB/T 18437.1-2001 Technical Requirements for Retrofitting of Gas Vehicles - Compressed Natural Gas Vehicle

Introduction

In order to improve energy efficiency, reduce energy consumption and reduce pollution, compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicles have become increasingly popular. This can be seen in the development of CNG vehicles in many countries, including China. The relevant national standards of CNG vehicles have become increasingly standardized and perfect. Among them, GB/T 18437.1-2001, Technical Requirements for Retrofitting of Gas Vehicles, which specifically regulates the retrofitting requirements of natural gas vehicles, is one of the most important standards for CNG vehicles.

Scope of application

This part of GB/T 18437.1 stipulates the technical requirements for the safety performance, environmental performance, vehicle matching and performance testing of the retrofitting and conversion of CNG vehicles. This standard is applicable to light vehicle and medium duty vehicles containing gasoline driven on the road. It does not apply to the transformation of heavy vehicle and vehicle running on other fuels.

Safety Requirements

The safety requirements for CNG vehicles must be strictly enforced. The pressure of the CNG storage tank is generally 13-25MPa, and some special models are up to 70 MPa. The energy stored in it is as high as several tons of TNT. Once the tank is destroyed due to various reasons, it will cause great human and material losses. The safety of CNG vehicles is mainly embodied in the design, manufacturing, installation and commissioning of CNG storage tanks, gas delivery pipeline systems and safety devices.

Environmental Performance Requirements

In order to reduce the environmental pollution of CNG vehicles, the emission limit requirements for CNG vehicles converted from gasoline vehicles should meet the requirements and technical specifications of the original exhaust emission standard of gasoline vehicles. In addition, CNG vehicles should meet the requirements of noise control regulations.

Vehicle Matching Requirements

The matching of the vehicle body is an important part of the successful transformation of a CNG vehicle. The matching of CNG vehicles should take into account the following factors: fuel temperature, fuel storage, engine, vehicle body space and heat dissipating ability. Fuel storage space and distribution system should be designed according to the vehicle structural characteristics and combined with the largest possible number of cylinders. The CNG distribution pipeline system must be installed with overload protection system and equipped with corresponding indicators and adjusting devices.

Conclusion

The feedback and application of GB/T 18437.1-2001 for the retrofitting of CNG vehicles have been more and more widely, which has promoted the development of CNG vehicles. This standard, providing a series of stability, safety, environmental protection and other requirements, has laid a solid foundation for the retrofitting of CNG vehicles and has also improved its reliabiltiy for daily use. In the future, CNG vehicles are expected to play an increasingly important role in the development of renewable energy.
