The concept of gear transmission has become an integral part of most machines and motors used in industry, as well as cars and other consumer products. In simple terms, a gear transmission is a system consisting of two or more gears which create motion or torque. There are two types of gear transmissions- spur gear assemblies and helical gear assemblies.

A spur gear assembly is the most basic type of gear transmissions available. In this setup, the gears are arranged in a linear configuration, and connected to each other with axles. When these gears move, they create rotary motion. The size and shape of the gears are an important factor in this type of transmission, as the size and shape of the gears can affect the speed and torque created by the system.

A helical gear assembly is more complex than a spur gear assembly and usually consists of two or more sets of alternate helical gears that are connected to one another at opposite angles. As these gears loop around each other, they create a twisting force which gives the assembly increased torque and speed. The size and shape of the helical gears also affects the amount of torque and speed that the transmission can achieve.

Whether using a spur gear or helical gear assembly, it is important to properly stabilize and secure the transmission. This is done through the use of bearings, which can provide support to the gears and axles, as well as enable smooth operation.
