Abstract

Vanadium-bearing pig iron (VBP) is an important alloy material used in the manufacture of steel and stainless steel. This paper briefly introduces the history and development of vanadium-bearing pig iron (YB/T5125-1993). At the same time, it summarizes the main properties and uses of vanadium-bearing pig iron. In addition, the main production process of vanadium-bearing pig iron is also introduced.

1 Introduction

Vanadium-bearing pig iron (VBP) is an important alloy material that has been used in the production of large and medium-sized cutlery and other metal products since the 1960s. Vanadium-bearing pig iron is one of the most commonly used materials for the production of flanged steel, high-strength steels, wear-resistant steels and other steel products. Since the introduction of YB/T5125-1993, the vanadium-bearing pig iron has been developed rapidly, and its application areas have also evolved to automobiles, ships, electronics and other fields.

2 History and Development

Vanadium-bearing pig iron has a long history, and its earliest record can be traced back to 1882, when vanadium was discovered by Swedish chemist Nils Sefström. Due to the varied composition of iron ore, the vanadium-bearing pig iron which was discovered in the same year was composed of phosphorus and sulfur, and the vanadium content was only 0.01%. In the twentieth century, with the development of production techniques and gradually improved equipment, the vanadium-bearing pig iron alloy has begun to appear widely, and its special characteristics have attracted the attention of everyone. In 1993, China issued the national standard YB/T5125-1993 for vanadium-bearing pig iron. The standard clearly states that the vanadium content of vanadium-containing pig iron should be between 0.20% and 0.50%, and the other alloying elements must all meet the requirements of the standard. From then on, the vanadium-bearing pig iron was improved in terms of performance and quality, so that its application range was further extended.

3 Main Properties

Vanadium-bearing pig iron is a kind of alloy material composed of iron, vanadium and other alloying elements. It has the following main properties:

1. High temperature strength and toughness; VBP is painted with a high-temperature resistant coating, which can improve the strength and toughness at elevated temperatures and protect the material from corrosion.

2. High wear resistance and corrosion resistance; Vanadium is not only corrosion-resistant and wear-resistant, but also has a good anti-oxidation effect.

3. Good machinability; VBP has a high mechanical strength and good cutting performance, so that it can be processed into various products quickly and efficiently, so it is very popular with manufacturers.

4. High overall carbon content; Vanadium-bearing pig iron has a high overall carbon content, making it an ideal material for manufacturing a variety of alloys.

5. Low thermal conductivity; Vanadium-bearing pig iron has a low thermal conductivity, making it an ideal material for producing long-term heat-resistant components.

4 Uses

Vanadium-bearing pig iron (YB/T5125-1993) is widely used in the manufacture of automobiles, ships, electronics, construction and other industries. Its main features are:

1. It is often used as a building material for ships and bridges.

2. It is suitable for producing large flanges, such as vehicle chassis components, main engines connecting rods, etc.

3. It is an ideal material for producing valves and heat exchangers used in the chemical and petrochemical industries.

4. It is also an ideal material for producing gears and bearings used in papermaking machinery and machines.

5. It is suitable for producing a variety of alloys, such as wear-resistant alloys, anti-friction alloys, etc.

6. It is also suitable for producing various tools, such as tools used in construction and mining.

5 Production Process

The production process of vanadium-bearing pig iron involves many steps, including crushing, primary crushing, secondary crushing, screening, magnetic separation, sintering, smelting, desulfurization and other processes. The details are as follows:

1. Crushing: Crushing is the first step in the production of vanadium-bearing pig iron. In this step, the raw materials are crushed into small pieces with a crusher.

2. Primary crushing: In this step, the crushed material is further reduced in size.

3. Secondary crushing: The material is further crushed in secondary crushing.

4. Screening: After the secondary crushing, the material is screened to remove impurities.

5. Magnetic separation: Magnetic separation is used to separate the vanadium-bearing pig iron from other materials.

6. Sintering: The vanadium-bearing pig iron is sintered to remove impurities and improve the performance of the alloy.

7. Smelting: In this step, the vanadium-bearing pig iron is smelted in a furnace, and other alloying elements are added.

8. Desulfurization: Desulfurization is an important step in the production process, as it reduces the sulfur content of the cast iron and improves its performance.

6 Conclusion

Vanadium-bearing pig iron (YB/T5125-1993) is a special type of alloy material that has been used in metal production for many years. Its main features are high temperature strength, wear resistance, corrosion resistance, machinability and low thermal conductivity. It is widely used in the manufacture of vehicles, ships, electronics, construction and other industries. The production process of vanadium-bearing pig iron involves the steps of crushing, primary crushing, secondary crushing, screening, magnetic separation, sintering, smelting, and desulfurization.
