AISI 316LN (UNS S31653) is a molybdenum containing stainless steel which contains an addition of nitrogen and has a significantly higher yield strength over standard 316 and 316L stainless steels. It is known as 316LN (UNS S31653). This austenitic chromium-nickel stainless steel exhibits excellent corrosion resistance to a wide range of medium atmospheres, such as those encountered in petroleum, chemical, gas, and pharmaceutical processing applications.

AISI 316LN (UNS S31653) is a lower-carbon variant of Type 316 and provides excellent resistance to oxidation and corrosion. It is recommended for use in highly corrosive environments and is commonly used in the petroleum and chemical industries. AISI 316LN possesses excellent mechanical properties and is particularly resistant to pitting and crevice corrosion. In some applications, it has superior strength to type 316 stainless steel and can be used in higher temperatures.

AISI316LN exhibits good formability and weldability and is highly resistant to stress corrosion cracking (SCC). It has a relatively low coefficient of thermal expansion, making it well suited for use in hydrogen embrittlement environments. AISI 316LN is particularly suitable for use in marine environments and is often specified in offshore and oil and gas applications.

AISI 316LN is a popular choice for applications such as turbochargers, pressure vessels, pumps, valves, valves stems and valve bodies, heat exchangers and other process and handling equipment. It is also used in a variety of medical implants, equipment, and components, as well as for medical instruments, devices, and biomedical prostheses which are exposed to repeated exposure to corrosive body fluids.

AISI 316LN is an ideal choice for a wide range of industries due to its excellent resistance to corrosion, high strength, and formability. AISI316LN provides resistance to a wide range of corrosive media such as sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid, nitric acid and other acidic solutions. The material also provides excellent resistance to both pitting and crevice corrosion. AISI 316LNs excellent properties and corrosion resistance make it the ideal choice for use in a wide range of industries, including marine, petroleum, chemical, gas and pharmaceutical processing applications.
