Compression gaskets
Compression gaskets, also known as plug gaskets, are a type of sealing product used to seal a pressurised or high pressure environment. The gasket works by filling the space between two mating parts with a friction fit, thereby providing a leak proof seal. Compression gaskets are ideal for sealing an area that cannot be easily accessed or have to be held together by screws. Compression gaskets work best in the hardest to reach areas such as under equipment and behind walls.
The design of compression gaskets takes the form of a circular, rectangular or other shaped plug fitting neatly into the opening. This design helps to provide a secure fit between the two parts allowing for maximum contact between the two surfaces.
One of the key advantages of compression gaskets is their cost effectiveness. It is also easy to implement and requires minimal installation time. The gaskets are strong enough to handle high pressure applications, making them suitable for use in more demanding environments such as industrial plants and commercial facilities.
Compression gaskets are usually made from rubber and are available in different styles and materials. The material used to make the gasket will depend on the nature of the leak and its environment. Some of the most common materials used in the production of compression gaskets are Buna-N rubber, silicone, EPDM, Neoprene and PVC.
When using compression gaskets, it is important to ensure that they are securely and accurately installed. The surfaces of the two parts should be thoroughly cleaned and any debris must be removed before the gasket is installed. It is also important to make sure that any existing sealant or adhesive is removed so that the gasket will be secure and able to adequately fill any voids between the two surfaces. Once the gasket has been installed and sealed, it must be inspected regularly to ensure that there is no leakage and that it is still providing a secure seal.
Compression gaskets can provide an efficient and effective way of sealing areas that cannot be easily accessed. They are ideal for both residential and commercial applications, being both cost effective and easy to install. With the right precautions, these gaskets can provide a reliable seal for years to come.
