Living in an Electronic world
We are living in an era where our lives are gradually becoming more and more entwined with technology and its various embodiments. Electronic gadgets and digital products such as personal computers, cell phones, tablets and various other devices are now considered essential components of everyday life, serving as tools for communication, entertainment, and data storage and collection. The world has literally become “wired.” Mankind has become increasingly dependent on the Internet, which has become a vital part of many aspects of our lives. We now rely on electronic devices for information, entertainment, work, and even personal and social communication.
Modern electronic gadgets have facilitated a mobile lifestyle for many people. We can now use smartphones and tablets to access the internet wherever and whenever we choose. We can use our phones to connect with friends and family, read the latest news, participate in social media, or even buy items from the comfort of our own devices. It has become very easy to become completely dependent on digital technology, with the endless possibilities it brings us.
But there are, of course, two sides to this issue. Even though technology has made our lives easier, sometimes our addiction to the digital devices and the internet is too overwhelming. We can easily become addicted to the devices and forget about reality. We miss out on important parts of life, such as developing meaningful relationships with people, socializing, and taking the time to relax and contemplate, as we spend too much time focused on our screens. We also lose the opportunity to appreciate and explore the amazing world of nature and its beautiful surroundings.
Moreover, when it comes to communication, there is an increasing shift towards digital versus face to face. Although technology has provided us with the ability to stay in contact with people we will not see anytime soon, over-reliance on digital communication can limit our ability to build meaningful relationships with the people around us. We begin to rely more on surface level interaction rather than truly making a connection and getting to know someone.
Therefore, it is essential that we be conscious of our use of technology in order to maintain a proper balance. We must find ways to limit the amount of time we spend on the devices and instead use our existing resources of books, magazines and other print materials as sources of information as well as entertainment. Equally important, we must make sure to engage in other activities such as outdoor sports, physical activities, and socializing. Technology should become an integral part of our lives, not our entire existence. We can achieve this by limiting our dependencies on these helpful, yet almost intrusive devices. Let us remember: life is too short to spend it scrolling through the Internet.
