GB/T352-1988 Sealed Steel Wire Rope
The General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of the People’s Republic of China (AQSIQ) has released the Standard GB/T352-1988 Sealed Steel Wire Rope. This standard is applicable to the steel wire ropes used on lifting machines or aerial ropeways, with a maximum nominal tensile strength not exceeding 1270N/mm. It defines the product classification, technical requirements, testing methods, and acceptance criteria for sealed steel wire ropes.
Classification and Technical Requirements
Sealed steel wire ropes are classified into three types based on their nominal tensile strengths: 6×19/t-1270, 8×19/t-1270 and 6*19S-1270. The 6×19 type is suitable for all types of operations. The 8×19 type is suitable for operations of greater load capacity and conditions of higher service wear. The 6*19S type is suitable for aerial ropeway operation.
The specification requirements of each type are defined in the standard. The 6×19/t-1270 type has a 1570N/mm2 tensile strength. The 8×19/t-1270 type has a 2070N/mm2 tensile strength. The 6*19S-1270 type has a 1560N/mm2 tensile strength. All types must meet the requirements of surface quality, dimension accuracy, and metallurgical properties. The hardness and bending characteristics must also meet the prescribed requirements and be suitable for the structures in which they will be used.
Testing Methods and Test Methods
The testing methods include tests for quality, dimension accuracy, and metallurgical properties, as well as hardness and bending properties.
The standard also defines the method for testing dimension accuracy. It requires that the rope length, one or both ends, must be measured under tension. The rope must have an even twist and the rope length should not exceed the number of revolutions stated in the standard. The rope should not have knotted or damage cross-sections and the end gripping shall be free from cracks and notches.
The standard also defines tests for metallurgical properties. The chemical composition and tensile properties should be tested according to the relevant national standards. The results of these tests should be compared to those given in the standard.
The hardness test should be conducted according to JIS Z 2245 (Instrumented Hardness Tester), and the bending test should be conducted according to JIS Z 2253 (Bending Tester).
Acceptance Criteria
The standard also provides acceptance criteria for sealed steel wire ropes.
The surface quality, dimension accuracy, and metallurgical properties of the rope should meet the specified requirements. The hardness and bending properties should meet the values determined from the tests. The rope should be free from deformities and the end terminations should be secure. The rope length should not be greater than the number of revolutions specified in the standard.
Inspection and Testing
Inspection and testing of sealed steel wire ropes should be conducted by authorized personnel according to the recommended test methods and the acceptance criteria. The results of the tests should be recorded and signed by the responsible person.
Conclusion
This standard is applicable to the sealed steel wire ropes used on lifting machines or aerial ropeways, with a maximum nominal tensile strength not exceeding 1270N/mm. It defines the product classification, technical requirements, testing methods, and acceptance criteria for these ropes. The tests should be conducted according to the prescribed test methods and the acceptance criteria should be followed. Finally, the results of the tests should be recorded and signed by the responsible person.
