My Vacation to Italy
For my summer vacation this year, I chose to visit Italy. I had always wanted to go there, ever since I read in a book all about the amazing ancient ruins and beautiful beaches, and I was finally able to make that dream a reality.
I began my journey by visiting Rome, the capital city of Italy. I had imagined it all my life: the Colosseum, the Trevi Fountain and the ancient Pantheon, and I was not disappointed when I arrived. Everywhere I went, I was filled with awe by the site of these ancient monuments combined with the presence of modern life. I could see how living in Rome, with its mix of cultures, history and beauty, would be truly magical.
Next, I moved on to Florence, the birthplace of the Renaissance. I had heard of its grand Duomo, surrounded by beautiful piazzas, and I was mesmerized by its beauty when I arrived. I spent my days wandering the streets, taking in the old world charm and amusement filled within each nook and cranny. Everywhere I looked I saw something new, something that could fill my heart with wonder and delight. I was also able to explore the many museums, galleries and churches, and find inspiration in paintings, sculptures and architecture that I had only heard about in school.
I then boarded a train bound for the sunny Amalfi Coast on the Mediterranean Sea. Here I found my own slice of paradise, with its crystal clear waters, quaint seaside villages and perfect sunshine. I spent my days in Amalfi relaxing on the beach, exploring the many ancient ruins, and sailing the crystal blue waters. I also had some of the best Italian food of my life, and tasted the most delicious wines I had ever tried.
My final destination was Cinque Terre, five towns perched high on the cliffs along the Italian Riviera. Here I was captivated by the stunning pastel-colored houses and terrace gardens, juxtaposed against the deep blue sea and sky. I was also able to go hiking through winding cobbled streets and rocky trails, ending each day with a breathtaking view of the horizon.
My time in Italy was nothing short of magical. I saw wonders that I never thought I would witness, and indulged in all of the country’s rich culture. I even learnt a few words in Italian, and made many wonderful friends along the way. Whether it was wandering through the cobbled streets of Florence, sailing the waters of the Amalfi Coast, or admiring the view from the cliffs of Cinque Terre, I found something beautiful and special in each place I visited. It was an amazing experience that I will never forget.
