Valves Introduction
Valves are mechanical devices that control the flow of liquids, gases, or other materials in a system. Valves can be divided into two major groups: valves used for controlling the flow of liquids, and valves used for controlling the flow of gases.
Valves are divided into two major types: positive and negative. Positive valves are those which are designed to keep the flow of liquid or gas in one direction, whereas negative valves are designed to change the direction of the flow of liquid or gas.
Valves can be further divided into four basic types: check valves, gate valves, globe valves, and ball valves. Check valves are designed to allow the passage of liquid or gas in one direction only. Gate valves are used to stop the flow of liquid or gas by using a lever or a gate to close off the opening. Globe valves are designed to control the flow of liquid or gas by using a rotating disc. Ball valves are designed to control the flow of liquid or gas by using a ball to control the opening and closing of the valve.
Valves have a variety of applications and are used in many industries such as plumbing, agriculture, food processing, and automotive. Valves play an important role in providing reliable, efficient, and cost-effective solutions for controlling flow in any type of system.
