Pakistan Certified Accountants Association
Pakistan Certified Accountants Association (PCAA) is an independent, not-for-profit organization whose primary mission is to promote the professional standards and integrity of financial management, auditing, accounting and reporting activities of the public and private sectors in Pakistan. The PCAA provides the public with access to information and education, as well as industry advancements.
The PCAA was formed in 1985 to provide a forum for the provision of services and educational activities related to the accounting profession, including technical and advocacy support to members of different professional groups and to promote accounting and financial profession ethics. The PCAA also establishes uniform accounting principles, a code of conduct, a certification system and other programs designed to ensure quality practices and adherence to the highest professional standards among the members of the PCAA.
The PCAA operates under the aegis of the Ministry of Commerce and regulates the profession by enforcing Professional Conduct Regulations, Accounting Standards, and the Certified Accountant of Pakistan (CPA) Examination conducted regionally. The CPA Examination is a comprehensive exam covering topics in accounting, auditing, finance, economics, communications, information technology and management. The PCAA also provides public education and awareness for the accounting and finance profession to the public and government sector by arranging seminars, workshops and conferences.
The PCAA encourages members to adopt internationally recognized accounting standards, and provides technical support for the enforcement of compliance with those standards, as well as with codes of ethics and professional conduct. The PCAA also has its own Marketing Department which serves members through various activities. The PCAA also provides a referral list of Certified Accountants in Pakistan to its members.
The PCAA also works with a number of international organizations, including the South Asian Federation of Accountants (SAFA), the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan (ICAP), the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Institute of Certified Management Accountants (ICMA). Among the PCAA’s activities is the establishment of cooperation in the area of capacity building and the sharing of experiences in accounting, auditing and financial management.
The PCAA represents the interests of its members in different ways, including advocacy and participation in national and international events. It also provides a forum for discussion and exchange of ideas in an effort to promote uniformity and improve the status of the Profession. The PCAA contributes to the economic and financial sector development in Pakistan.
