Jeffrey Sachs is one of the most influential economists of our time. He is a professor at Columbia University, a Special Adviser to the United Nations Secretary-General, and a best-selling author. His work has shaped economic policy in many countries around the world.

Jeffrey Sachs was born in Detroit, Michigan, in 1954. He attended Harvard University, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in 1976, and his Ph.D. in economics in 1980. Before joining the faculty at Columbia University, Sachs served as an advisor to a number of governments around the world, including Poland and Bolivia.

Sachss work focuses primarily on development economics, poverty alleviation, and global health. He is widely recognized for his theory of shock therapy, which proposes that countries in economic crisis should rapidly restructure their economies by dramatically reducing government spending, opening up their markets to international trade, and liberalizing their foreign exchange systems.
