AISI 1330 steel is a medium carbon alloy steel used for producing tools and components that require a relatively high degree of strength and durability. This steel is used for producing various parts in form of forging and extrusion. AISI 1330 steel is ideal for medium-duty applications, such as parts and components that require more strength than mild steel but still need to withstand wear due to frequent use and contact with other materials.

AISI 1330 is a chromium-molybdenum-vanadium steel with a yield strength of over 130,000 psi (890 MPa). This alloy offers a higher degree of toughness and formability compared to AISI 4130, yet it offers far greater strength than AISI 1045. AISI 1330 steel is generally supplied in a quenched and tempered condition and its properties include high strength and hardness, good ductility, excellent weldability, good wear resistance and good machinability. It also has excellent fatigue resistance due to its higher carbon content. Its toughness is also improved when paired with a heat treatment process.

AISI 1330 steel is extensively used for many medium-duty applications that require greater strength and wear resistance than lightweight steels. These include a range of components like valves, shafts, gears, valves, crankshafts, couplings, and other automotive components. The steel also finds use in a range of industrial parts and components like turbine blades, drive shafts, and compressor housings. The steel’s high strength and wear resistance also makes it ideal for use in hot forging operations.

Other uses of AISI 1330 steel include stock car and Formula One-style hubs, drive axles and suspension components. These components must be able to withstand both high torque and frequent changes in direction, as well as significant amounts of abuse in the form of impacts and shocks. AISI 1330 steel is also commonly utilized in hydraulic cylinders, dump truck bodies, rollers and roll forming applications.

AISI 1330 steel is heat treatable and typically supplied in a quenched and tempered condition. The steel’s heat treatment process increases its strength, hardness and wear resistance. Heat treating AISI 1330 steel also increases its ductility, toughness and machinability. This steel can be welded using any of the normal arc welding methods. It can also be heat treated in both the annealed and normalized conditions, although it is not typically necessary.

AISI 1330 steel is strong and wear resistant, making it ideal for numerous applications that require good formability, strength, and hardenability. Its machinability and weldability are also higher than that of most steels, making it suitable for use in a wide range of parts and components. Its excellent fatigue resistance makes it well suited for producing tools and components that need to withstand long and stressful service lives.
