Other uses of AISI 1330 steel include stock car and Formula One-style hubs, drive axles and suspension components. These components must be able to withstand both high torque and frequent changes in direction, as well as significant amounts of abuse in the form of impacts and shocks. AISI 1330 steel is also commonly utilized in hydraulic cylinders, dump truck bodies, rollers and roll forming applications.
AISI 1330 steel is heat treatable and typically supplied in a quenched and tempered condition. The steel’s heat treatment process increases its strength, hardness and wear resistance. Heat treating AISI 1330 steel also increases its ductility, toughness and machinability. This steel can be welded using any of the normal arc welding methods. It can also be heat treated in both the annealed and normalized conditions, although it is not typically necessary.
