Tunnel construction is an important part of modern infrastructure projects. The development of transportation engineering technology and the improvement of production efficiency are closely related to the improvement of tunnel construction technology. The research and application of tunnel construction technology have great their progress in terms of safety reliability, construction speed and cost saving in recent years. This paper will take a water diversion project in China as an example to elaborate on the current development situation of tunnel construction technology and introduce some improvement measures and effective engineering practices, so as to reflect the achievements of our country in the aspect of tunnel excavation technology and to provide useful reference and enlightenment for the design, construction and management of similar engineering projects.

Introduction

Tunnel construction is an important part of modern infrastructure projects. The development of transportation engineering technology and the improvement of production efficiency are closely related to the improvement of tunnel construction technology. In recent years, significant progress has been made in terms of tunnel construction safety and reliability, construction speed and cost-efficiently. This paper will use a water diversion project in China as an example to discuss the current development of tunnel construction technology and introduce some measures and effective engineering practices to reflect the impressive achievements made in terms of tunnel excavation technology, and to provide useful references and insights for the design, construction and management of similar projects.

Technical Review

A water diversion project was executed in 2018 with a total constructed length of 11.1 kilometers and an excavation depth of 65 meters. The overall construction requirements and process are presented in the figure below.

The tunnel route of this project is complicated and has long distances between major sub-areas, and the geological conditions are complicated and highly heterogeneous. Therefore, the original tunnel construction method is not applicable in this case. In order to ensure smooth progress and guarantee the quality of the whole project, it is necessary to innovate the tunnel construction technology and ensure the safety and reliability of the project.

Innovation and Improvement of Tunnel Construction Technology

In order to effectively complete the construction tasks of the project and ensure product quality, a new tunnel construction method was proposed – Multi-bore Shield Construction Technology. Compared with the traditional excavation methods, this method can reduce the construction time and cost, and guarantee the safety and quality of the tunnel in a more efficient way, which is applied in many large-scale projects in China.

This project is constructed using the Multi-bore Shield Construction Technology, which makes full use of the flexibility of shield structure, raising the construction speed and accuracy. The construction parameters and steps of this tunnel construction trchnology are shown in the figure below.

施工技术的优化

Conclusion

Through the detailed introduction of the engineering construction project, we can see that the current tunnel construction technology in China is developing rapidly, and a variety of tunnel excavation methods and techniques can effectively meet the design requirements of the engineering scheme. The government attaches great importance to the safety and quality of the engineering construction.
