Mechanical Properties of 00Cr17Ni14Mo2 (316L, UG) Steel
00Cr17Ni14Mo2 (316L, UG) steel belongs to austenitic stainless steel, which has excellent corrosion resistance and good welding performance, as well as improved mechanical properties. The steel is usually used in medical equipment, coastal working sites, chemical reactors and so on. In order to better understand its physical properties, the following will introduce the tensile properties and fatigue properties of this kind of steel in details.
Tensile properties of 00Cr17Ni14Mo2 (316L, UG) steel
The tensile properties of 00Cr17Ni14Mo2 (316L, UG) steel were tested using a universal testing machine. The samples with a diameter of 5 mm were tested at room temperature. The results showed that the 00Cr17Ni14Mo2 (316L, UG) steel had a high yield strength of up to 456 MPa, and its tensile strength was 589 MPa at room temperature. The ductility of the steel was also good; it displayed an elongation at break greater than 33%, showing very good formability.
Fatigue properties of 00Cr17Ni14Mo2 (316L, UG) steel
The fatigue properties were evaluated by rotating beam fatigue test, with the frequency of 25 Hz, stroke of 100mm and strain rate of 10-3 s-1. The results showed that the fatigue strength of the 00Cr17Ni14Mo2 (316L, UG) steel was up to 678 MPa, with a fatigue limit of around 300 MPa. It was also noticed that the fatigue properties of the steel improved as the surface treatment changed from cold-rolling to hot-rolling.
Conclusion
00Cr17Ni14Mo2 (316L, UG) steel has excellent mechanical properties. It displayed high yield strength, tensile strength and ductility with the corresponding values being 456MPa, 589MPa and 33% elongation respectively. It also had a good fatigue strength with a fatigue limit of around 300MPa. In addition, it was observed that the fatigue properties of the steel improved with heat-treating. All of these characteristics make the steel an excellent material for application in medical equipment, coastal working sites and chemical reactors.
