Chromium nitride iron, also known as compound ferritic nitride (Cr + Fe3N), is a high-performance, wear-resistant material developed in the late 20th century. Its wear-resistant performance is about three times higher than that of a high-speed steel cutting tool, and its mechanical properties also surpass those of traditional alloy tools. It is an ideal material for the manufacture of high-precision cutting tools.

The chromium nitride iron is composed of an internal precipitation phase of NbC, Cr3C2, and high-temperature nitrides of Fe2N, Fe4N, and (Cr,Fe)2N, and an external precipitation phase of Mo2C, WC and (Cr,Fe)7C3. On the one hand, the internal precipitation phase is to improve wear resistance, while the external precipitation phase is to improve comprehensive mechanical properties.

The YB/T5140-1993 National Standard specifies the chemical composition, physical and chemical properties and technical requirements of chromium nitride iron. According to the requirements of the standard, the chemical composition and quantity of elements such as carbon, chromium, phosphorus and sulfur in chromium nitride iron should meet the requirements, and the hardness of chromium nitride iron should reach 54~60 HRC.

Chromium nitride iron has a high hardness and excellent wear resistance and hot hardness. At the same time, it also has a high strength of the alloy, and its service life is longer than that of ordinary alloy tools, which greatly improves the productivity. In addition, the chromium nitride iron is a non-magnetic material, and its resistance to acid, alkali and salt erosion is also strong.

In general, chromium nitride iron demonstrates superior performance, which makes it widely used in various fields, such as the manufacture of cutting tools, hot scissors, saw blades, and aviation components. Chromium nitride iron, which conforms to the YB/T5140-1993 National Standard, should also have a reliable quality assurance to ensure the consistent quality of chromium nitride iron products.
