Molding Terms(English-Chinese)
1. Air trap(气节)A void in a molding, usually located at a parting line, that prevents air from escaping during molding and causes a void or “sink” in a molded part.
2. Boss(凸台)An integral projection from a molded part or from a die or mold.
3. Core(核心)A separate insert used in either a mold or a die to produce an internal feature such as a hole.
4. Cavity(模穴)A hollow area within a mold to form the exterior of a plastic part.
5. Draft(倾斜)A taper on the wall of a part, usually on the sides, to facilitate molding and plastic release.
6. Ejection(弹出)The process of releasing the molded part from the mold.
7. Flash(溢出)A thin fin of plastic that has leaked out between the core and cavity of the mold due to improper mold design, clamping or ejection.
8. Gate(浇口)The aperture in the mold through which the molten plastic enters the mold.
9. Gate Vestige(浇口残渣)The small residual piece of plastic on the molded part that results from the gate being cut off.
10. Parting Line(分型缘)The joint or line between two or more mold halves or core and cavity.
11. Runner(顺路)The channel that connects the gate and the cavities in which the melted plastic flows.
12. Shrinkage(缩水)The contraction of molded parts when cooled, usually described as a fraction of an inch per inch.
13. Shut Off(封闭)The vertical connection between two parts, such as between a mold and a core, to ensure a shut.
14. Undercut(剪断)A recess or hole in the part that cannot be formed in the cavity because of opposing surfaces of the mold, and hence requires an additional mold half or other tooling to form or a process like spin welding to complete.
15. Vent(排气凹-出气道)An opening or small groove on the exposed surface of a cavity or core to allow air and gasses to escape as the plastic is injected into the mold.
