Smartphones and Technology
Technology has advanced rapidly over the past decade, allowing for the possibility of seemingly limitless options for convenience and entertainment. Smartphones are the epitome of this development; for many, a simplified version of the computer. While very useful and efficient, there are certain drawbacks that come with modern-day technology.
The development of smartphones further promotes the portability of technology and allows people to take their phones with them wherever they go. This has allowed people to develop additional tasks such as accessing emails on the go, as well as access to different applications that help to optimize simplicity. Applications such as Google Maps, Google Health and various other applications allow users to keep track of important tasks, make decisions quickly, and have direct access to the information they need.
On the other hand, the use of smartphones has been directly related to an increase in distracted driving, as users are tempted to check their notifications while on the road. This can be very dangerous, as it increases the chances of an accident occurring. Moreover, constant reliance on smartphone technology can lead to users becoming less reliant on their memory, as they can easily look up information on the go. This can cause people to be less creative and reduce individuals’ capability of problem-solving in creative ways.
Furthermore, the reliance on smartphones can also lead to a greater reliance on technology overall–something which can have greater implications on the environment and society. Smartphones and technology require energy, which can have unknowable implications on the environment and could cause an increase in electricity usage. This can result in a more expensive electricity bill; something that is already a concern for many households.
In conclusion, the development of smartphones provides us with a quicker and more efficient way of obtaining information, however, it should not be the only form of information that people should be relying on. Smartphones should be used for convenience, rather than for primary research. Moreover, the over-reliance on technology should be examined as it could have far-reaching implications on society and the environment.
