The China Communications Industry Association (CCIA) is an important non-profit, non-governmental organization in China. It is responsible for the communication industry, the development of the sector and related areas, and the promotion of communication industry technologies. The CCIA was founded on 15 October 1990 and has been active in the telecommunication sector for over 25 years.
The CCIA serves 17 provinces in China and is represented among more than 100 countries. It is a two-level organization with a Central Secretariat and local branches in China. The CCIA has 35 members from major companies, research institutes and universities engaged in telecoms and related technology research and development, distribution and the operation of networks.
As the industry’s most influential organization, the CCIA provides the following services:
• Collecting, analyzing and providing up-to-date information on the telecoms industry;
• Establishing industry standards and guidelines through its divisions;
• Supporting R&D efforts;
• Promoting the development of new technologies;
• Collecting and evaluating industry information and statistics;
• Promoting the sale of new products and services;
• Establishing communication with telecom companies and other telecom related organizations.
The CCIA also provides a forum for the exchanging of views among members of the industry from around the world. It offers various resources, such as the 3G Association of China (C3GAC), Chinese Mobile Communication Association (CMCA), Chinese Mobile Network Alliance (CMNA), Chinese Telecommunications Manufacturers Association (CTMA), which are all platforms for competitions, cooperation and innovation between industry players from all corners of the world.
The CCIA provides a forum to discuss the rapid development of Chinas telecoms industry, join experts debate current topics, and collaborate with local Government to provide industry insights and advice. The CCIA also provides guidance on important issues, including law and regulations, new technologies, product testing, consumer protection, market development, and the sharing of industry information. Furthermore, the CCIA is actively involved in international collaboration and is a member of the International Union of 1G and 2G Networks (IUO) and the GSMA.
The CCIA is a valuable resource for the government, industry and users. The Association attaches great importance to the development of the industry, as well as to the role and status of Chinese communications industry in the world.
