Scope

This European Standard applies to hot rolled products in weldable fine grain structural steels which are produced in the form of sheets, plates, strips, and wide flats with a minimum thickness of 3mm and, unless otherwise specified a maximum thickness of 250mm.

Steel Grades and Delivery Conditions

The steel grades and delivery conditions relating to BS EN 10113-3: 1993 are:

S275N,S275NL,S355N,S355NL

Delivery

The delivery condition for products in accordance with EN 10113-3 is normalized.

Chemical Composition

The chemical composition of the steel grades in accordance with BS EN 10113-3: 1993 shall be as specified in Table 1:

Conclusion

This standard applies to hot rolled products in weldable fine grain structural steels which are produced in the form of sheets, plates, strips, and wide flats with a minimum thickness of 3 mm and, unless otherwise specified a maximum thickness of 250 mm. The chemical composition and mechanical properties are specified for the S275N,S275NL,S355N,S355NL grades of steel produced in normalized delivery condition. The chemical composition is according to Table 1 and the mechanical properties are according to Table 2.

DIN EN10113/3-1993 is an internationally recognized standard governing the quality of hot rolled products with a weldable fine grain structure. The most common steels covered by this standard are S355MC, S460MC, S420MC and S500MC.

The chemical composition of these steels include 0.12-0.22% carbon, 0.15-0.40% manganese, 0.50-1.60% silicon, 0.015-0.035% phosphorus and 0.020-0.035% sulfur.

The mechanical properties of these steels are determined by their tensile strength, yield strength, and elongation. The minimum requirements for the tensile strength and yield strength are 460 MPa and 355 MPa, respectively. Furthermore, the minimum elongation at fracture is 19%.

DIN EN10113/3-1993 requires that the hot rolled weldable fine grain structure product possesses excellent welding and forming properties. This is achieved by optimizing the HAZ toughness, thermal stability and toughness of the weld while ensuring it has a sound bond.

Tests, such as the Charpy V-notch Impact test, is also carried out to ensure the steel’s resistance at lower temperatures. The minimum required Charpy V-notch impact energy is 27 J at 0 degrees Celsius.

In addition to these tests, inspections are carried out to ensure the product meets the chemical composition and mechanical property requirements of DIN EN10113/3-1993.

Overall, these requirements ensure the quality of hot rolled products with weldable fine grain structure. This is beneficial for a variety of construction applications. It also helps maintain structural safety and supports environmental sustainability.
