Russia Boiler Plate Steel Number

Steel plates are an important component in the construction, transport, manufacturing and other industries. Different types of steel plates offer distinct advantages and applications. Russia boiler plate steel is one type of steel widely used in the construction, marine, and mechanical engineering industries. With its elevated temperature performance, Russia boiler plates are perfect for manufacturing components of power plants and other high-temperature industrial equipment.

Russia boiler plate steel is specifically developed for use in boilers, which requires strong and sturdy steel. Given its elevated temperature tolerance, corrosion-resistant and dense structure, the plate steel is used for manufacturing various components of high-temperature equipment and boilers. The high-tensile strength of the steel allows for complex fabrication and forming.

Russia boiler plate steel comes with a unique Russian steel plate number, enabling manufacturers to ensure the type and quality of the steel for any particular part or component. The number comprises of a combination of numbers and letters, starting with K followed by a number. The first two digits of the number stand for the material group of the steel and the last two numerals denote the minimum yield strength of the steel in Mpa (Mega Pascal).

For instance, K13 is identified as high speed steel and K18 as boiler plate steel. Typically, K18 is used to create electronic parts and components of high-temperature machinery. While the K13 steel comes with a minimum yield strength of 1300 Mpa, the K18 boiler plates have a minimum yield strength of 800 Mpa.

The Russia boiler plate steel variety is further divided based on the carbon content of the steel into the normal sized steel plate and thin steel plate. The normal size plate steel consists of a carbon content between 0.14% and 0.31%, while the thin plate steel consists of an average carbon content of less than 0.20%.

The thin steel plates come with a higher corrosion resistance, which makes them suitable for storing various liquids like oil and water. The Russian company Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK) is the main supplier of boiler plate steel to the Russian market. It offers the steel in hot-rolled and cold-rolled formats with a thickness of around 6-100 mm.

The hot-rolled steel has greater flatness, better surface quality, and improved mechanical properties. It also comes with a consistent and uniform thickness as compared to cold-rolled steel plates.

The normal Russia boiler plates are available in widths of either 1,300 mm or 1,500 mm. The length of the steel plates generally range between 8,000 mm and 12,000 mm. These plates are especially designed for the fabrication of pressure vessels and boilers wherein the process of welding is used often.

The head and tail ends of the plates need to be free of any tears, stresses, cracks or slits. In addition, the plates need to display a uniform thickness tolerance, appropriate straightness and a certain level of hardness as per the requirement by the standard DIN EN 10029.

To ensure the highest standard of quality for Russia boiler plate steel, the institutions of RussianGOST standards and other international standards like ASTM A20 and ASTM A516 are followed. The tests that are employed to ascertain the steel’s quality include Ultrasonic Examination (UT), Charpy V-Notch Impact Testing, Moment Testing, Chemical Analysis, and Hardness Testing.

Russia boiler plate steel is a highly versatile material suitable for various applications in the high-temperature and pressure environment of boilers and such. The steel carries a specific steel number to represent the quality of the steel and is typically available in hot-rolled and cold-rolled conditions. The use of Russia boiler plate steel in the manufacture of power plants, boilers, and other high-temperature equipment is beneficial due to its high-tensile strength and corrosion-resistant nature. By adhering to the quality and safety standards of Russia, industrial businesses can ensure their safety and quality requirements are met, while also reducing costs associated with production.
