Edgar E. Peters
Dr. Edgar E. Peters is an American author, professor, and investor. He is the author of numerous books on finance, investments, and economics. He is also the Chief Investment Officer at PanAgora Asset Management and the lnstitute for Quantitative Research in Finance. Dr. Peters has been teaching investments and finance at the Wharton School of Business since 1978 and was a finance professor at the University of Michigan for eleven years prior to that. He created the Wharton schools investment management program in 1980 and co-lead the quant research program at the same school from 2000 to 2006.
Dr. Peters has contributed greatly to the advancement of finance. He developed innovative computer models that help investors determine how to manage their investments more intelligently. He was one of the early adopters of the Black–Scholes option pricing model and used it to identify valuable trades. He also developed a stochastic volatility model to help investors better understand the option markets. His writing has appeared in various financial professional journals and his research has earned him numerous awards, including the Graham and Dodd Award of Excellence in financial writing.
Throughout his career, Dr. Peters has been an advocate for teaching investors the tools they need to make better decisions and achieve greater returns. In recent years, his focus has shifted to a research-focused approach as he looks to combine mathematical models, algorithm development, and financial theory. He is a strong believer in the use of empirical data to make decisions and has sought to use machine learning and other advanced quantitative techniques to deliver higher returns to investors.
He has served as a consultant to many of the most well known Wall Street firms and is an active investor himself. He is a Fellow of the Investment Management and Financial Association and a member of the CFA Institute, the American Finance Association, and the Financial Analysts Society. Dr. Peters currently lives in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and continues to promote the advancement of financial research, education, and investing through his writings and lectures.
