Pakistan
Pakistan is a federal parliamentary republic in South Asia. It is the sixth most populous nation in the world and is known for being the birthplace of modern Islamic terrorism. The official name of Pakistan is the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, and the country is the world’s second largest Muslim-majority nation after Indonesia. Pakistan has a rich cultural history, and its cities still boast some of the oldest and most beautiful monuments in the subcontinent.
A diverse nation, Pakistan is comprised of four provinces and four federal territories. Situated at the crossroads of the Indian and Iranian civilizations, the region of Pakistan was formerly part of British India. The regions that make up modern Pakistan were historically known as the Frontier – or Pashtunstan, a land of fierce independence filled with warring tribes that fiercely resisted integration into the Indian empire. The area was later divided by the British and became the modern nation-state of Pakistan in 1947 following Partition.
Since then, Pakistan has been ruled by a number of different dynamics and forces, including military rule and periods of civilian leadership. The nation’s political system has seen various stages of development, with a number of Constitution revisions taking place over time. The democratic movement that began in 1988 has brought about various changes and improvements, including a decrease in corruption, a stronger judicial system and increased human rights protections. The country also enjoys a fully functioning economy, with a growth rate of around 5% annually in the past few years.
Pakistan is the world’s fifth-largest populated country and the sixth-largest economy by nominal GDP. Pakistan is home to numerous natural resources such as oil and natural gas, minerals and fisheries, and its trade and services sectors are growing rapidly. The country’s agricultural industry accounts for about 18% of its GDP and employs about 44% of the population. Manufacturing firms, such as textiles, steel, carpet and leather, are Pakistan’s main contributors to the production and export of goods. The country also has emerging knowledge and technology sectors, including software, information technology and telecommunications.
Pakistan’s education system has experienced rapid advancements in recent years. The literacy rate is over 57%, and the country has developed comprehensive policies for universal access to education for both males and females. Despite recent improvements, however, Pakistan still faces numerous social and economic challenges due to ongoing terrorism, poverty and other issues. Nevertheless, these hindrances have not stopped Pakistan from making continued progress, and the nation’s future looks bright.
