China University of Mining and Technology (CUMT) is an important engineering university located in Xuzhou, Jiangsu province, in Peoples Republic of China. With a history of nearly 100 years and a mission to propel the development of mining technology and engineering, CUMT is the leader in mining higher education.
The history of China University of Mining and Technology (CUMT) dates back to 1909. Founded in Beijing as Chinas first school of mining and technology, the university later moved to Xuzhou in 1949. CUMT has gone through several major transitions as it has grown. In 1970, CUMT was designated one of the first universities of independent organization in China. In 1980, graduate programs were added to the university, which have since effectively propelled mining research and industry innovation. In 2001, CUMT became an independent university directly subordinate to the State Ministry of Education. As such, it is one of the top universities in the People’s Republic of China.
At present, CUMT consists of 22 independent departments, 18 disciplines awarding doctoral degrees, 59 disciplines awarding master’s degree and 43 specialties awarding bachelor’s degrees. With around 30,000 full-time students enrolled, this makes CUMT one of the largest university in China. In addition to its main campus, CUMT has six other campuses in various cities across China, including Shenyang, Wuhan and Baotou.
CUMT has very strong research capabilities. It has 8 national key laboratories, 7 provincial or minister-level key laboratories, 3 provincial or minister-level engineering technology research centers and 10 key engineering technology research centers. This computer-aided laboratory for multifaceted data analysis system model is certified by the Ministry of Science and Technology of China.
In addition, CUMT has placed great emphasis on international exchange and cooperation as a key part of internationalization strategy. Every year, CUMT exchanges over 1000 professionals overseas and receives more than 1000 overseas professionals. In 2011, the university established a joint institute of Sustainable Development with the University of Bologna in Italy and established 44 international cooperation programs with 33 universities and research institutes in 15 countries, such as Canada, France, Japan and Germany.
In conclusion, CUMT has developed into a world-class mining engineering university and is home to some of the most respected mining scientists and engineers in the world. With its expertise in mining technology, safety engineering and geosciences, combined with its long-term commitment to providing quality education, CUMT is leading the way in developing the next generation of industry leaders and innovators in mining engineering.
