Life on the Subway Train
For many who ride the subway on a regular basis, it quickly becomes part of their daily routine. From young parents pushing strollers to busy businessmen, the subway train is a unique setting that holds a diverse and vibrant collection of passengers from all walks of life.
The early morning trains are often filled with passengers in a hurry to get to their early shifts at work or school. They quickly brush aside any sleepiness by grabbing onto the railing and take off in a rush towards their destination. Although they are busy catching up on emails and news apps on their phone, they never seem to forget to thank the driver upon departure. This thankfulness is quite remarkable, considering how loud and busy the subway can be at times.
The evenings often feel a little calmer and more relaxed. After a long day at the office, many people take their seat with a cup of coffee in hand, just to take a break from the hustle and bustle of the busy streets outside. There is something special about the moment when the lights from within a subway car dim to a soft purple hue and the train slowly drifts off into a tunnel. It’s as if the subway is taking its passengers away from the city for a brief period, giving them a chance to sit back and just be.
As the weekend approaches, the atmosphere inside the subway train shifts yet again. While some passengers may be heading off to the beach or a park, others are busy readying themselves for a night out on the town. As they chat with friends and search through their bag for the perfect accessory, their laughter goes unheard amongst the sound of the tracks. For a short moment in time, it’s almost hard to believe that the same place can go from silence to complete joy in a matter of seconds.
At the end of the day, the subway car is truly a reflection of the ever-changing face of humanity. It can be intimidating at first, but if one takes the time to look closer and observe the people around them, it can become an incredibly enriching experience. Before we know it, the train arrives in its final station, but for the passengers, the journey has only just begun.
