Physical properties of 15Cr-5Ni-3Cu-15Nb (15-5PH)
15Cr-5Ni-3Cu-15Nb (referred to as 15-5PH) is an improved martensitic precipitation hardening stainless steel. This alloy has many excellent properties, such as excellent mechanical strength, good corrosion resistance in non-oxidizing media and room temperature, excellent magnetic properties and dimensional stability. At the same time, it has excellent oxidation resistance and good long-term fatigue properties.
The mechanical properties of 15-5PH stainless steel can be improved by heat treatment. After sub-zero aging treatment, its hardness is up to HRC43-50, and its strength is much higher than that of 17-4PH stainless steel. And the alloy has good impact toughness, fatigue resistance and excellent mechanical properties at cryogenic temperatures.
The 15-5PH stainless steel has good corrosion resistance at room temperature and in non-oxidizing media. Its resistance to nitric acid, phosphoric acid and mineral acid is also good. But when it is used in the media containing oxidizing, Sulfuric acid, hydrochloric acid and other mediums, its corrosion resistance decreases. The high temperature oxidation resistance of 15-5PH stainless steel is good, and the anti-oxidation temperature is up to 600-1100 ℃.
15-5PH stainless steel has good magnetic properties, good machinability, and has excellent machinability in the annealed state. Under the condition of combined cutting force, machining performance is better, feed plays an important role in tool wear and workpiece surface roughness.
The dimensional stability of 15-5PH stainless steel is quite good. It has good mechanical properties in the operating temperature range of -68 ~ 260℃, and its axis strength is higher than 212℃, especially the plateau strength is strong. Low coefficient of thermal expansion in the range of -196 ~ 260℃, and linear thermal expansion coefficient is still 1.2 x 10-5 between 200~800℃.
