China University of Geosciences (Beijing)
China University of Geosciences (CUGB) is a university in Beijing that focuses on geology and related fields. It is one of the most prestigious universities in the natural sciences in all of China, and it is Chinas largest teaching and research geology institution. CUGB is a national key university directly under the administration of the Ministry of Education and is a Project 211 and Project 985 university, two national initiatives that identify and fund higher education institutions with the highest research standards, best educational resources, and most advanced laboratories.
CUGB traces its roots back to 1952 when the Beijing Institute of Geology was founded as the first professional geology institution in China. It was later renamed the Institute of Geosciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences, before finally becoming China University of Geosciences in 1978. Since then, the university has greatly expanded and now offers degrees in the fields of geology, natural resources, and environment, with particular emphasis on earth science, engineering science and information science. The university also offers advanced degrees in soil, hydrology, environmental engineering, land resource management, and digital cartography.
