Advantages of Arc Welding and its Applications
Arc welding is one of the most common and effective welding techniques used in industry today. It is a very important process that is used extensively in many different applications, ranging from construction and manufacturing to shipbuilding and piping. Arc welding, or shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), is an easy-to-use and relatively affordable method of joining two similar metals by heating them with an electric arc. In this process, an electric arc is created between an electrode, usually flux-coated, and the objects to be joined (i.e. the base metals). The energy from the arc is used to melt and fuse the base metals, producing a strong bond that is generally able to withstand high temperatures and pressures.
