Germany Heat Resistant Steel Grades

Heat Resistant Steel is an essential component of many engineering and industrial applications. Used in an array of temperatures, Heat Resistant Steel is an alloy that can achieve great strength, hardness and durability at high temperatures. Furthermore, Heat Resistant Steel doesn’t conduct heat as well as other steels, so it is ideal for applications where heat should not be conducting from one component to the component, or when heat should be isolated from the environment. Due to their robust properties, heat resistant steels are used in many different applications, ranging from spacecraft components to high-temperature furnaces.

In Germany, heat resistant steel is classified and graded according to Germany’s material number designations, which represent a specific combination of alloying elements, such as carbon and chromium. The following is a brief overview of the respective grades and their composition:

1. MNS 018 (formerly known as MNS 010 and MNS A5)

MNS 018 is an austenitic (non-magnetic) heat-resistant steel offering outstanding corrosion and heat resistance. The alloy is composed of chromium (18-19%), molybdenum (3.5-4.5%) and silicon (1-1.5%), as well as a carbon content of 0.06-0.09%. As well as corrosion resistance, this grade of steel also possesses excellent strength and toughness at elevated temperatures.

2. MNS 019 (formerly known as MNS 011 and MNS A6)

MNS 019 is an austenitic heat-resistant steel grade. It features an alloy composition of 19-21% chromium, 3.5-4.5% molybdenum and 1-1.5% silicon, as well as a carbon content of 0.06-0.09%. The alloy offers a combination of outstanding properties, including excellent corrosion and heat resistance as well as good strength and toughness.

3. MNS 021 (formerly known as MNS 015 and MNS A9)

MNS 021 offers the highest chromium, molybdenum and silicon content in the MNS range. It offers an alloy composition of 21-22% chromium, 4.5-5% molybdenum and 1-1.5% silicon, as well as a carbon content of 0.06-0.09%. It is the most corrosion-resistant grade of the MNS range and is particularly suitable for high temperature applications.
